Peppermint Candy
1. Create a New 400x400 image with a White Background. Create a New layer. Press F to activate the Flood Fill Tool, then fill with the following Gradient.
Settings used:
- Gradient = Black-white
- Angel = 0
- Repeats = 11
- Invert = Unchecked
- Style = Radial
- Center Point = 50 for both Horizontal and Vertical
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+H to adjust the Histogram. Use these settings.
Settings used:
- Edit = Luminance
- Output max = 255
- min = 0
- Midtones = 50
- Low = 75
- Gamma = 5
- High = 76
3. Press S to activate the Selection Tool. Create a Circular selection in the center of the canvas (Your cursor should start at x:200 y:200). Press Ctrl+Shift+I to Invert the selection. Press delete. Press Ctrl+Shift+I again to Invert the selection.
4. Go to Adjust | Color Balance | Manual Color Correction... use these settings.
Settings used:
- Preset target color = Fruits (Choose "Cherry" in the color swatch)
- Preserve lightness = Unchecked
- Preserve saturation = Unchecked
- Source = Black
5. Go to Effect | Distortion | Twirl... twirl by 36. Next, go to Effects | Illumination Effects | Lights... use the Default settings.
Duplicate the current layer. Go to Effects | 3D Effects | Inner Bevel... use the Default settings.
Press Ctrl+D to Select None. Change the layer blend mode to Screen.
6. Hide the Background layer, then merge the visible layers. Press D to activate the Deform Tool. Hold Ctrl+Shift, then drag the top right corner slightly down and towards the center. Then drag the bottom right corner slightly up and towards the center, as shown in the image above.
7. Duplicate the current layer. Go to Effect | Image Effects | Offsett... use these settings.
Settings used:
- Horizontal offset = 1
- Vertical offset = 1
- Custom
- Edge Mode = Transparent
In the History palette, highlight your last two commands (Offet and Duplicate layer). Press the "Save Quickscript" button found on the palette. Now press the "Run Quickscript" button several times until you are satisfied with the "height" of the candy.
Hide the Background layer, then merge the visible layers. Press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F, then Ctrl+Shift+F to create a selection. Go to Selections | Modify | Expand... expand by 2. Make the Background layer active, then create a New layer. Flood Fill the selection with Black.
Make the topmost layer active, then Merge Down the layer (Layers | Merge | Merge Down). Press Shift+S to Resize. Resize down, making sure "Resize all layers" is Unchecked.
That's it! Now you can create sweet Peppermint Candy.
